Rummaging through old stacks of papers in my room yesterday, deciding what to keep and what to get rid of - part of my pre-departure routine - I came across a flyer for a “Fulbright Information Session’ at Ohio State with details on how to start the application process…. little did I know how integral this 30 minute session would be in forming the next steps on my somewhat bumpy, ever-changing life path. I started the application process in Spring of 2014, and now here I am, more than a year later, preparing to leave for Germany in just a few hours!!! This blog will follow my experiences as a Fulbright ETA as well as my travels during the next 11 months (fingers crossed).
For those of your who are unfamiliar with the Fulbright Program, here is a link with more information and history on the origins of the scholarship. In short, I have received a scholarship from the US State Department to work as an English Teaching Assistant (ETA) in Germany from September 2015 to end of June 2016. I’ll be working at Georg-Büchner Gymnasium in Rheinfelden, Germany. Rheinfelden is a small town of about 30,000 located near the German/Swiss border.
[For anyone who is toying with the idea of applying for a Fulbright scholarship, I’ll be posting soon about the application process & any advice I can think of that helped me while I was working on my essays, asking for recommendations, etc.]
My German is a bit rusty at the moment, but once I get back into the swing of things I’ll try to post my entries in both German and English - German speaking friends: please feel free to send comments with corrections on my grammar, word order, or anything of the sort. I’d like this blog to not only serve as a way for me to write about my experience as an ETA, but also to practice & improve my German writing skills.
